UPDATE January 8th, 2020

Happy New Year from all of us at The Blue Sail!  We’ve enjoyed a bit of a break but are back up and running this week, with some small adjustments to our business hours.  We do plan to stay open throughout the winter.  Our hours are available for viewing on our social media pages and listed at the footer of our website.  As always, we welcome any inquiries through email (info@thebluesail.ca) or phone 613.645.2583.

Press Release, Summer 2019

The Blue Sail Seafood Company Inc. will open its doors in downtown Picton, ON this summer.  Located at 266 Main Street, The Blue Sail Seafood Market & Restaurant will offer customers high quality fresh seafood and prepared foods from its retail shop, and a relaxed dining experience at its adjacent restaurant.  The Blue Sail is the creation of owner Chef Jeffrey Hounsell and General Manager Rachel Morris.


Owners Jeff Hounsell and Maxine Tiller are originally from Newfoundland and, having spent over 25 years in Toronto, moved to the County in 2013 because it reminded them of “home”.  Proximity to the water and a community of friendly, welcoming people were important on the list of “must-haves” and Picton fit the bill. Jeff, having spent most of his career in the technology and industrial engineering sector, changed gears in 2008 and graduated from George Brown College’s Culinary Management program in Toronto.  He worked in several seafood restaurants in Toronto before moving to the County.  Maxine and Jeff live in Picton with their two dogs, Sadie & Ben.


General Manager Rachel Morris, (who also owns shares in the company), holds a strong background in business management with experience in both food and retail sales.  Rachel, her husband Mike Barnes, and their 3 children moved to the County in 2012.  Rachel has roots in the area and the move from Ottawa to Prince Edward County was also like coming home to be closer to family.  Rachel and Mike own a small family farm (Lamb’s Quarters) on the outskirts of Picton.  Lamb’s Quarters Farm will be growing much of the produce used in The Blue Sail kitchen, as their joint commitment to provide local fresh food to their community.


Jeff and Rachel had worked together in the past at another local business but after leaving that organization in 2018, discussions of a new business venture began.  After months of planning, research and hard work, The Blue Sail is nearly set to launch.


Our goal is simple; we want to bring high quality seafood to Prince Edward in a casual and friendly atmosphere.  We look forward to hosting you in our cozy restaurant, or welcoming you to shop in our market for the freshest seafood, in-house smoked fish, and prepared foods to enjoy at home.
